The new edition of the boy scout handbook just came out, but you can still buy the old (11th edition) at a reduced price ($3.88). If you are not a scout and worried about any changes in scout rank requirements, don't waste your money on the newer version.

There is good info in the handbook, but a lot of it is about Scout ranks and advancement. But at $3.88 it contains a lot of useful info.

The Scout Fieldbook is a better resource for outdoor info.

If you are going to place an order also check out Knots and How to Tie Them. It is just a 32 page black & white booklet, but at $1.49 it is handly.

You can get all three with shipping for <$20, and they probably contain more info that you can really use than many of the survival books.

They also have a few interesting bandannas. Knots, Star Map and First Aid. The first aid one is my favorite.

I still have mine from the 80s. I'm not sure if I'd use that since I already have the military manual and SAS survival book (even the smaller one thats a few inches across)

I keep mine as momento of the scouts and childhood. Although admitedly when I read the military docs and such there was some flashbacks from the old scouting days

A company called Vision Forum has the 1911 Boyscout Handbook for 20$ and if you order today or tommorow you get FREE shipping. http://www.visionforum.com/search/productdetail.aspx?search=boyscout+handbook&productid=53720 .
BTW look around the All American Boys Catalogue they have a LOT of survival gear and all around cool stuff. All of it is good quality (I have some of their stuff).
Hope this helps,
