Cutting monofilament with a knife, even a very sharp serrated knife, is slow and energy intensive compared to the shearing action of scissors or clippers. Many fishermen prefer to use clippers of some type to cut their lines because knives just aren't very efficient on that material.
When I was a dive instructor they are all I ever carried (get a lanyard or you will lose them) they rust eventually but after the first set with the holster you can buy replacements anywhere. They are also called paramedic shears - or penny cutters at your local hardware store.
You get a few comments from the big knife - small **** community. They ask you how you are going to fight off a shark with them - then you ask how they are going to cut the wet suit off an accident victim with their rambo knife.
Careful, there are a lot of us here who prefer knives to scissors for a lot of things. There are very, very few things you can do with scissors that you can't do with a knife. Lots of things that you can do with a knife that scissors can't.
That being said, I EDC a pair of these, a locking folder, leatherman, and SAK.
