"Even when the river receded, Jeanne Schnepp remained caught. The river banks grew farther away as Schnepp sank, trapped between a 12-foot wall of rocks and a logjam she couldn't climb over.

With only two cans of Mountain Dew and a bottle of water, Schnepp shouted herself hoarse. The brush was a couple hundred yards from a concrete bridge. Clint Schnepp said his mother could see cars driving over it."

I wonder how much sooner she would have been found if she had a whistle.

Well now that's just terrible frown While on the river every life vest should have a whistle! Heck, they require that when on a PWC... the key or the vest must have a whistle.

I thought this was an interesting statement: "She's always out doing something that she probably shouldn't have been doing."

Not that a trip down the river should be something to stop a person, but the river was up. In any case, if she's doing things that are risky she and her family should make sure she is a little more prepared for something to go wrong.

I'm glad she's alive though.

I don't understand how you become dehydrated while stranded on a river?

People refuse to drink the water cuz it's "bad." Screw that. Most diarrhea is self limiting. Just poop in the side going away from you.

there's something here I just don't get. 12 feet of rubble stopping her? I'd think that the more crap was there, the easier it'd be to get out.

The article referred to it as a 'log jam', but other articles indicated that is was just a large amount of brush. Probably enough to keep her from escaping, too small to climb on.

That's why we carry a small PSK all the time. Whenever we go out we should at least have the minimum necessities with us. Whatever we do, we must retain common sense. Sometimes that seems almost impossible for some.

You put fingers in your mouth and blow laugh

How is it you get to be 63 and you don't know how to whistle loud? You say "but I'm a lady?" My mother is a lady, and she taught me smile Sure thumb and pointer can be challenging, but everyone can master pointer and ring finger (or any two handed finger combination).

How to Whistle — Loud!

What is the world record for loudness of....122.5 decibels

Re: whistling.

I have always wanted to learn to whistle, that loud, harsh, annoying, "hey-you-come-over-here", and I have never been able to do it. My mother could whistle like a factory whistle at quitting time, so I guess it's not hereditary.

John Wayne couldn't whistle, either.

My Mom used to tell me this one:

I bought a wooden whistle, and it wouldn't whistle.
I bought a steel whistle, and I steel couldn't whistle.
I bought a tin whistle, and now I tin whistle.
