FYI, A friend of mine that used to work at the same scout summer camp as I did, recently put up a web page about the camp (Owasippe Scout Reservation, Chicago Area Council). One of his links was to a page devoted to the Owasippe Search & Rescue organization. There's not much info on the page, but here's the link:

http://www.flash.net/~marzano/osar.htm

What I find encouraging is the initiative shown by these young men and women (yes, women work at Boy Scout camps now) in being prepared to respond to lost Scouts on treeks in the Manistee National Forest. But they also have taken the additional step in expanding their responsibilities to include the community around the camp, which is loacted west of Whitehall, MI (lower penninsula). And they are working within the existing infrastructure West Michigan SAR and National Association for SAR.

You'll notice that they are training with the Will County SAR in Illinois. That's because they are in Michigan only during the summer months the camp is in operation.

I will send them an email to let them know about this site so they can use it as a resource. And I will also encourage them to contribute.

Willie Vannerson
McHenry, IL
