Does anyone own the 5.11 Tactical Series 5 in 1 or the 3 in 1 Jackets. I'm thinking about getting one as they are available for around $60-70 or £35-45. Are they a worth while purchase?.

The 5.11 tactical website states that they use a waterproof but breathable nylon shell material. Any idea as to the material i.e. Goretex or Sympatex etc. I don't expect the jacket to be particularly high performance but it does seem to have lots of pockets and is available in DPM and other muted colours and could be useful/cheap enough for winter sea fishing on the east of coast of Scotland and for urban use. (although there isn't really much of a requirement for 'urban use' where I'm situated)

I have been a loyal customer of 5.11 products for years. I've seen this coat but very little use for it in Florida. However, every other piece of 5.11 clothing I have purchased has looked good, worn well, and stood up to abuse. They also stand behind their products. I don't believe you can go wrong with any 5.11 product.

+1. I wear their tactical BDU's on the job and they have held up very well.

Haven't noticed any shrinkage whatsoever in their cotton or synthetics. Also, 5.11 sizes tend to run about 1/2 inch to an inch large in my experience. Your mileage yadda yadda.

I have a pair of 5.11 taclite pants. Love em. They didnt shrink on me. Real nice stuff. I have no experience with their jacket, but the company stands behind their stuff.

I've got several pair of 5.11 pants and a pair of their "tactical" cargo shorts, no shrinkage to speak of. Ironically, I wish they had shrunk just a tiny bit in the waist as I bought them a little too large.

I've also got one of their jackets, can't remember the model as it was a gift but it seems very nice. It came with a neon green safety vest as it's a uniform jacket.

I've got a couple of other 5.11 things kicking around here, some shirts, a belt, etc. all well made and reasonably priced most of the time.

A real good vendor for them is a place called L.A. Police Gear, they have good regular prices and outstanding clearance prices. They also run clearance sales often, I've picked up some pants that over 50% off, they recently had some 5.11 pants in limited sizes and colors for less than 10 bucks a pair.

They sell a lot more than just police equipment too.

I haven't noticed any shrinkage after one year but I have the tactical BDU's with elastic in the waistband. Next best thing to sweats in the comfort category.
