This is the basic kit I add to my backpack. The backpack always contains items such as shelter materials or tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, cookware, utensils, food, stove and fuel and water containers. I also carry a MSR Mini-Waterworks filter on all trips and a sturdy non-folding knife such as a Grohmann #3 “Boat Knife”. Extra socks, clothing appropriate to the climate and raingear. Maps are also essential! All items in this little emergency kit are as high a quality as I can find and as small and light as I can find! Put together over time, it is less than paying big bucks for a manufactured kit, some of which contain less than quality items! Quality can be the difference between life and death in the wilderness, no substitute for good, working equipment.
