Maybe I have just missed it, but I would find it valuable to have a moderated survival best practices collection that doesn't disappear by being replaced with newer messages.

It seems like a very good idea but a bit of a bear to create and maintain. If you want to start assembling it some of us might be willing to help, but I think it would soon be like authoring a book.

...and a book might not be such a bad thing to do either.

I considered this question as well, which is why I started a thread about self sufficient water gathering for a Bug In. At least someone could use the SEARCH function and get a comprehensive idea of techniques, resources to prepare, etc.

You should start a new thread on what your interested in and title it so that a search would bring it up. Maybe like,

"Best books/references about off grid power"
"How do you plan to travel in a world without gas stations"
"Skills for Finding Yourself on a Map"
"How do YOU power your house, off grid"
"If you're lost, how does someone else know to find you?"
"What documents must be kept for post disaster? How do you do it?"
"How much food do you store? What is the inventory."
