My EDC bag just got SOAKED in an unfortunate rainstorm, so I emptied it out to let it dry. Luckilly the rain didn't penetrate the heavy canvas (I usually carry an old brittish MK VI gas mask bag, think Indiana Jones).

I've seen some great EDC and BOB lists here, but emptying my bag made me realize how much other stuff I'm accustomed too, so how about it? What other things can't you live without?

Here's a list from a kind of hippie writer of what is in my bag: (and note doesn't include whats in my pockets)

Useful stuff:

Camillus US Army pocket knife
DOAN mag block (in bag)
DOAN mag block (clipped to strap)
Doug Ritter PSK
Ziplok bag filled with bandaids of various sizes and asprin
LED lenser flashlilght
AAA batteries for said flashlight
Jewler's loupe (firestarter and good to see small things with)
tape measure
four books of paper matches
Set of South ord lockpicks (uhhh... for scratching my nose?)
Cyalume lightstick, orange
two large bandannas

Stuff I just like:

Pen case with five fountain pens
Leather Journal from Renaissance Art (best journal makers ever)
Windsor & Newton small watercolor kit
small cloth wrap with six brushes
Caran D'arche Necolor II watercolor pastels
Prismacolor colored pencils
(3) teabags Eastern Shore Victorian Rose
(3) teabags Eastern Shore Black Raven
Tarot deck, Ryder Waite

Practical Stuff:

Molskine monthly planner
Two checkbooks, the real checkbook and the "only for severe emergencies" checkbook
USB thumb drive with all my files and stuff on it
Copies of all my identity papers, shrunk down 50% and shrink wrapped.

So I obviously carry some writing and art stuff, what do you randomly take up space with in your EDC just 'cause? If we get into the SHTF situation, I'll record it well! With watercolor illustrations! (Until the zombies/commies/islamofacist terrorists get me)

Have a great week!

Jacob

This list certainly gets points for originality! (I'm going to look up those journals -- I always keep a travel journal on trips - international and domestic, especially camping.)

I keep a moleskin journal and a couple pens in whatever backpack I'm carrying, even on walks in the city, as well as several in the car.

Also have permanently in my passenger door the following paperback books:

Dharma Bums - Jack Kerouac

Travels with Charley - John Steinbeck

I love both of those books!

Anyway, if you want a good leather journal:

I have no association with them other than a satisfied customer.

I like to think if I'm ever in a fatal survival situation, it will at least be exhaustively documented smile

I care moleskin notepads as well. Before blogs, FB, electronic diary stuff, I used notebooks for years.

Now, I only use one for an 'Adventure' Scrape book. An 'on-the-road' diary of my vacations, backpacking trips and routes, etc. I of course include maps, drawings, stubs, diary thoughts, photos etc so its almost a scrapebook of just the fun stuff in my life.

non factual books are best as you can re-read them. my penguin paperback history of the USA (excellent) could keep me occupied for a week or a minute. when it eventuallly fell apart, it was a blessing in disguise. i scattered clips with 50 to 100 pages around bags and pockets so i've always something to read. started reduced copying other books (use the booklet option on the copier).

I just got my wife the large recipe book from this company, I'm quite impressed. Ordered on a Wednesday evening, delivered here by 3pm on Friday with all the customization I asked for. Build quality is excellent and my wife started filling it up with recipes!

I think I might get myself something from them as well!!!

Thanks for the link!

Quick Joey Small went over the wall
With a ball an' a chain behind him
Quick Joey Small went over the wall
Send the dogs right out to find him

In a striped prison suit with no loot to boot
He headed for the highway
With his chain still draggin'
He thumbed down a wagon n' said
"Man are you goin' my way?"

And they say now
Run Joey , Joey run run the hounds are on your trail
Jump-up! Jump-up!
Run Joey , Joey run run they're gonna send you back to jail

Sweet Mary Jane was goin' insane
When she heard of Joey's jail break
But she knew all the while 'cause
She sent him a file
Baked inside a fudge cake.
