The price list has both wholesale and retail prices so you should be able to buy one. Seems awfully pricey to me. Personally I'm also leery of most wonder gadgets that claim to be able to fill a hatful of uses. It may do everything that's advertised but how many fuctions can it do well?

From your earlier post, I presume you are active or reserve in the Corps. Give your supply Sgt. the NSN number, and be REEEEEEAL nice to him (her). The ECOTAT is in the supply system.

I have a First Generation ECOTAT (the heavier Gortex version) which I got off e-Bay for a bit less than $100.00. If your eyes gloss over at kit with a high "gadget factor", an ECOTAT is for you. Yes, it will do all that it claims. But it does take some fiddling and experimentation to get the hang of it. Do that prior to going the field, or you will look very silly. Overall, its a good bit of kit. Toss in a poncho liner or LW sleeping bag in your patrol pack, and you're set to go "combat light".

I am active Marine Corps,and I saw the NSN, but whenever I try to ask my supply section to get me something, its always a HUGE ASS no. I will look on ebay and see what they have there. I never knew the trash you could get there until I looked.

Besides hammocks & bivy bags from OR, Integral Designs, ect, check out the single-person shelters from the Tarptent folks: http://www.tarptent.com/ On the site they even give you the dimensions to make (or have made) your own shelter.

IMHO the sewn-in floor Virga model would be the one to best meet your specs. You could try contacting them to see if they could make you one in OD, black, or maybe in desert or woodland camo. Dealing with a smaller company like them usually allows for easier customization than when dealing with the Big Boys. <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the link to the TarpTent! Best lightweight shelter I have seen! A little pricey but sure to be worth it in weight savings and functionality. Not as versitile as my old Gerry tarp but much nicer and about the same weight. I plan on getting one for the fall.

I actually have settled on a tent from Cabela's called the north star. It is a generally a no-see-um bivy with a rain fly. I wont be going anywhere super cold (without better gear) and it will do nicely for those mosquito infested NC nights!!

Hi Garrett, the one you want does not come cheap, but what is the price of survival and comfort?, rolled up into a 25 oz, 14" stuffed, one person shelter. The Company OR Outdoor Research makes their delux gore-tex bivy sack for a mere $219.95. Available mail order through Campmor's fall 2003 catalog. I've been relying on this shelter for the past five years, living life in the comfort zone, on solo and group expeditions exploring the rivers of south america. I can not, and will not leave home without it. I'm also a wilderness instructor for an alternative high school, and use this same shelter for 30 day wilderness trips every other month. I figure my money was well spent (I payed $300 for mine), wouldn't you?

Mine is black, the one they have in Campmor's is blue. Good luck.
