I've been thinking about purchasing some self powered/hand crank lanterns to supplement my battery powered lanterns. I've checked the search function, Google and even CPF and haven't found much in the way of reviews or evaluations. Looking at advertisments, the Megabrite lantern looks like a decent product. Does anyone have any experience to share with this or other similar products?

I would take a look at the Freeplay Indigo Latern.

The Freeplay products all seem to be very well made and durable.

I currently have the Freeplay Summit SW Radio and Mobile Power 12V hand crank.

As the Freeplay Indigo light has a USB charger port a supplemental Solar Charger such as the 10W Solar Gorilla or the smaller folding option such as the Brunton 3W USB could be used to charge the Indigo Lantern as well.

Thanx for the advice. I checked-out the Freeplay website. Seems to worth the extra cost. Now Im going to shop the price. If I buy it, I'll do a mini-review. Thanx again.

I have several Freeplay lanterns. I like and would recommend them too.

My Dad got a deal on a couple Woods Rechargeable Crank Lanterns and gave me one. Unfortunately on that first camping trip out the crank came off.

Needless to say, not a brand I'd be recommending highly. However, as far as I understand, his is still working fine smile.
