Everything you need to know. I saw them at a recent hurricane workshop. These are multilayer polyester sheets designed to prevent glass from shattering (cost ~$5.50 per square foot), block sunlight (~$7 per square foot), or both (~$9 per square foot).

Due to their incredible toughness and cut-resistance they are not a DIY sort of project. Professional installation is strongly recommended.
