Yesterday it was hot, well hot for this part of the world, around 28-30C. A days walk in the hills was planned. Everything was packed away at home into a new recently aquired pack (a chance to test out some new gear) ready for the walk including the gas stove/pot and the chicken curry which I was going to have for lunch at a nice spot besides some waterfalls high up in hills only to discover that the chicken curry was missing when we finally got there around Lunch time. This caused great amusement with my walking partner simply because of the amount of gear I was carrying for a simple days walk on a summers day. He was equipped with just a WW2 gas mask bag (Raiders of the lost Ark style) with his sandwiches, crisps and a couple of water bottles, camera, map and compass etc. The chicken curry was later found in the car boot, where I had forgotten to repack after taking out a heavy cotton garbine windproof jacket from the bottom of the pack. The bottle of wine and the 3 hours sleep the night before probably didn't help but my walking partner thought that was a lame excuse. It might be nice to carry all the gear required to cover every eventuality but it sucks when you forget your Lunch.
Couldn't you just eat fistfulls of Miner's Lettuce, club a few fish, chug some grubs, and BBQ a found goat carcass... like Bear Grylls or Les Stroud? (ha ha)
BTW, beautiful terrain; looks like an awesome "walk in the hills"!
