I beleive he's referring to the Katadyne Mp-1 tablets, which are chlorine dioxide, not iodine.


I'm not suggesting that boiling is always the best option, though it may be if you have abundant fuel and a large enough pot. However if you're going to boil anyway, then there is no reason to use chemicals.

I agree with what Izzy had said about carrying a 32 oz bottle, this is why I harp on the Guyot Designs stainless steel backpacker model bottle, it's 32 oz which is 1 dose with a steripen or 1 tablet with a Katadyne micropur tablet (backup for the steripen). It makes it easy for treating and in a pinch you can boil water in it as well plus no plastic taste or leaching. Best thing since fried chicken for me.

I have pondered getting the fold flat water bags from bepreparedtosurvive. They look nice too.

Have both... love the flat water bags for kits. don't have to worry about the cap getting in the way when folded.
