On my PSK I have 9 feet of paracord wraped around the kit. The only problem is I have to unwrap the cord every time i need to use something. This problem may have come up before but i haven't seen it.

I think that your 'packing method' will vary greatly depending on your intended use for your kits. I have designed my PSK to only be used in emergencies, where I would probably need much of the equipment inside rthe kit. Once it is opened, much of the gear will be distributed throughout my pockets, except for the gear that needs to be waterproofed - that will stay in the tin.

If you designed your PSK for 'continuous use', i think that it would be better to store the the paracord seperately, or to change your container (I assume that you use an altoids-type container?). Some people use the 'modular system', and others have designed a lanyard hole in the tin, where a paracord lanyard can be attatched without interfering with the opening/closing of the kit. the lanyard can be woven or knotted to get more cord for the desired length, but that has been discussed in other threads.

BTW, just out of interest, what are the contents of your PSK? I love seeing how other people prepare.

WOFT:
I have a regular altoids usually wraped with paracord , the contents include:
2 bandaids
info card
some tin foil
two needles one small one large
thread wrapped around spindle
fishing stuff, line, hooks, etc.
small tweezers
photon 1
small pocket knife
Suunto Clipper compass
a few matches
a large 5,000 strike mag. starter
2 cotton balls
iodine in vile
3 quick tinders

there may be more but this is all i can think of at the time

P.S. I already fixed the problem with the cord by making a sleeve of duct tape around the paracord, so now when i need to acess the kit i just slip it of

what items of you PSK do you use regularly ?

suggested items you could add:
-steel/brass wire for constructing fire proof/strong things and for snaring
-signal equipment: some kind of mirror, tin foil is a nightmare...
-watercontainer
-tubing for water sweeps and other stuff.

do you have a seppared FAK ? only 2 bandaids in a PSK is not much...

How does that Duct-tape sleeve work? How is it configured? Do you get adhesive on the paracord? I would be interested in the details as it seems the best if not only solution proposed here for this particular problem and possibly provides another way to carry some more duct-tape - which is always a good idea.

How I constructed the "sleeve"
First I wrapped duct tape sticky side out along the PSK so that it slips off length wise. Next i carefully wrapped the cord ontop of the sticky part. Last i "sealed" the cord by putting another layer of duct tape on top (sticky side down.)
So therefore you can use more duct tape and when you need acess your kit you don't have to unwrapp everything
And yes you do get some sticky stuff on the cord but i think it just holds it together better. Slipping my sleeve back on can be difficult but i just reduced some of the friction created by the other duct tape. I hope this is understandable because i am in a hurry

I use my tweezers regulary
and every once in a while i use my backup Photon and compass.
Bandaids are very usefull for everyday cuts

I like the idea, but doesn't the the glue from duct and electrical tape become a gooey mess after a while? That would make the paracord difficult to work-with, and make the duct tape useless.

I'm looking at this from a long-term point of veiw. How about wrapping HD foil arounf the outside of the tin and then wrapping paracord around the foil? the foil is flexible but not too flimsy, so it will retain shape, and it will probably slide quite easily. You could even wrap a rangerband around the foil-paracord envelope to make sure it doesn't acidently slide off.

I might try it in the near future. That will give a bit more space inside the tin, a bit more bulk outside, and a bit more foil to work with. Hmmmm...
