As an aside, the japanese tanto point is as much a result of forging as any design criteria and all things being equal, tantos and drop points will both penetrate car doors.
At least that is what COLD STEEL uses to promote their product ( but voids any warranty if you duplicate it.)
Drop points are 'superior' simply because of that usefull upsweep we all love for shaving feather sticks,carving wooden canteen cups and skinning the mice we dropped with our Springfield M6 rifle.
The american tanto point is actually more efficient for drilling holes if you decide to build a set of snowshoes etc. The blade itself is marginally better ( these are my anecdotal observations) at chopping and a good billet splitter vs the SRK I owned.
