A VCR tape containing "Alien" and "Aliens" was a perennial favorite for movie nights. Completely different movies, but both well made.
I really don't object to them remaking "Alien". The original will remain, at least to my mind, the definitive version but if someone thinks they can do it better I don't see any point in expending energy to stop them.
I just hope that the new version doesn't become the only version available. As reference for a friend interested in holding out in an urban setting, and just plain entertainment value, I tried to find "Fort Apache the Bronx" but it had been replaced with the lame remake, "Assault on Precinct 13". The first is a pretty decent depiction of defense in-depth of a building against a determined foe using limited available resources. It also works as solid entertainment. The later version is a adventure fantasy devoid of any practical use beyond a failed attempt at making a movie.
If a remake of "Alien" makes the original unobtainable I will be disappointed. Even more so if the remake is not as good as the original.
