I just saw a review of this research and product in Science News online. It's a chemical water treatment developed for countries with very poor water supplies and distribution. This is new news to me, but maybe old to the group. This type of water treatment seems to me to be very relevent to our discussions. Any thoughts?

The Science News site is www.scienceonline.org. The P&G health sciences site is www.pghsi.com.

Sorry about the link for Science News. It should have been www.sciencenews.org. Fingers move faster than brain.

A thousand pardons. Being the insensitive clod that I am, I didn't include a summary of the topic of the post.......

The PuR research (product?) is a chemico-mechanical powder that when added to dirty water flocculates the suspended particulate. After 5 minutes, the water is filtered and the residual chlorine purifies the water. Twenty minutes later, the water is safe to drink. According to Science News, 4 grams of PuR purified 10 liters of water. The links of the links in the articles provide some small amount of additional info about when and where the tests of the product were performed and a summary of the results.

Anyway, if it is available to individuals, this sounds like a good addition to PSKs. However, no shelf-life was given so it's not clear how long it will last in a PSK.

Any group comments?

great new treatment.
4 g purifies 10 litres. 0.5g purifies 1.25L. I wonder how long it would last out of the package?

Poked about the P&G/PuR website. Lots of info. This stuff at least looks good.

Doug? When you're not busy doing your recent impression of The Fugitive (google "Fred Johnson Fugitive". You'll understand.....), how about a comment or a review?
