Well there are worse people that could have been picked for the job. Personally I would have chosen Ray Mears but I doubt he would have the "star appeal" that Bear brings to the table in terms of recruiting and fund raising.
What he lacks in good sense will be made up for by the attention it brings to the organization which will translate into donations, volunteering, etc.
Who knows, maybe one of the scouts will actually
teach him something about wilderness safety.
Heaven knows he could sure use the lesson.
