Hi all
Does anybody know of a source (mail order or shop) in New York for some of the following items?
Starflash Signal Mirror BCB Cammando wire saw little bottles (for potable aqua and repackaging meds) NATO lifeboat matches (or something similar) small otter box (or something similar)
My Aunt is going to NY for a few days on business, so hopefully I can mail-order some of the things I can't get in South Africa for her to pick up. As she is on business, she won't be able to 'shop-around' for anything, unless I give her really specific details. Anything else that I might find useful?
thanks in advance

Woft, Check with TOB9595, I believe that he can help on the mirrors, unless I'm mistaken, he also posts quite a bit on www.candlepowerforums.com and has sold compasses, mirrors, bottles there. He does not seem to be a regular store, however, I've ordered from him and only experienced professionalism. It may be possible for your relative to pick up the order at a drop box location. Suggest that you try a PM with him. If you have any ?'s, PM me as well. HTH Comanche7

Eastern Mountain Sports has a shop in New York. I could not find all the stuff you want there, but they do have Otter boxes. I am not familiar with their store or NY so hopefully others will chime in on this one. Manhattan Telephone: 212-966-8730 Manager: Lorenzo Wright Address: Mail to 591 Broadway Ship to 164 Mercer Street New York, New York 10012 Hours: Monday - Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. http://www.ems.com/index.jsp?FOLDER&...D=1055809830470You could try and order up stuff and have it shipped to her Hotel from the various suppliers. I highly recommend signal mirrors from Rescue Reflectors http://www.malcolmmurray.com/rescue/IMO these are vastly superior to the StarFlash and not that much more. LifeBoat matches and wire saws can be had from Brigade Quartermasters http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/index.tam Little vials etc are more difficult......hum. Good Luck.

How do you order from Rescue Reflectors? Lifeboat matches are listed as 'hazardous material'. Can they be transported on a commercial passanger liner in checked-luggage, or must they be declared, or can't they be transported?

I ordered from Rescue Reflectors by letter, but you probably need to contact by phone to meet your timeline. I have talked to Malcolm Murray and you could not find a nicer guy. I have his #4 plastic and #21 Glass mirrors. Both are excellent.

I do not know for certain about flying with LifeBoats in your check luggage. Hopefully someone else may be able to assist on this question. These rules seem to change fast. You may want to contact the air carrier directly and ask about flying with matches in the luggage.

Woft, It is you, Johnny I think the BCB lifeboat matches do not classify as Hazardous because of the sealed container and most importantly the lacquer or covering on the matchhead itself. I think that's why the stuff can be mailed most anywhere. the strike anywhere matches couldn't be shipped because of the classification. Sadly, I really liked them
Schwert, Can you describe the Rescue reflectors? I 'm not familiar with them. The site lists them and I'm really only familiar with the 2x3 StarFlash. I really like the StarFlash weight and size. Good for cutting my bushy eyebrows

Hello all, I have a couple size vials. Amber glass, round with teflon seal top. dimensions ~1.4 cm diameter, 4.5 cm tall. I don't know the capacity. They are Kimble 60880a. I also have 20 ml scintillation vials. ~ 2.5 cm diam, 5.5 cm tall clear glass, round. Plastic cap with some sort of plastic seal. My use is primarily for essential oil storage of my mixes . I also use the ambers for medication and water treatment storage and transport. Tom
