I concure with Tom, and would go so far as to say that the first warning posted should be about the terrorist/criminal threat. In this day, you are far more likely as a tourist to encounter bad guys long before you would have to worry about natural conditions, especially if you are on your own going into areas less traveled by tourists. The locals know who is and isn't supposed to be in an area, and you will be as obvious as if you are waving a big red, white and blue flag around. Even in Jordan we were warned not to wander unless we wanted to be in one of those "don't let this happen to you" type videos that Al Jazeera like to show every so often.
