Aurora strikers suck. I talked with some guy at their customer service and he swore the striker will last through hundreds, if not thousands of strikes. It barely lasted a dozen. Eventually, I replaced the striker with a home-made one (made from a kitchen knife) and gave the Aurora away.

What could be more simple than simply scraping a FireSteel? Much less expensive too.

It sounds like jamesraykenney and Rodian have two different initial opinions of the Aurora, but it is suggested that with a proper striker it works great. What do you think, Rodion? Did you try it with a decent striker before giving it away?

It sounds as though with a good striker and proper technique the Aurora has the advantage of more robust, longer lasting sparks.

But, I would attribute that to the higher Mg content. I wonder why it is comparable to the BlastMatch if the BM is just an ordinary ferro with no additional Mg.

I think that it is that the BM has the best striker in the history of strikers!!! grin
It does not try to make the fire steel last a long time, it just tried to make the bigest longest lasting sparks you have ever seen.
I think the sparks from the Aurora are hotter though, as they are so very, VERY white.
I would LOVE to have a BM with the fire steel from the Aurora, that would be something to see!!!
