I posted quite a while back saying that my sister was going to India and what should be included in a survival kit. Today I discussed making a kit for her and she agreed and i've started gathering materials for it. I showed her the different tins I had that I could use and she chose a large round tin that used to hold.....guess what - sweets. It would probably hold about three times the amount of gear that an altoids tin would. We also discussed what to put in it. She would suply some of the gear that she had already (like a torch and a SAK classic) and I would by the rest for her Birthday. She is going in September and staying for 6 months. The ideas i've had so far are as follows (the first 3 items are things i've already assembled): 5 NATO wind waterproof matches 1 Sonca 1 AAA torch 1 Pack MRE toilet paper 1 Small Citronella Candle 1 Sewing kit - Duct Tape -Antiseptic wipes -Plasters 1 Bandage/ dressing - Iodine Tablets 1 Ziplock Bag - Tweezers -SAK Classic
I would think G.B.s past history with India would give many cultural kit ideas; dressing in mufti, drinking quinine in gin and packing a tamed mongoose for the occassional cobra I imagine also the Indian community in G.B. could give many suggestions of items people find usefull in daily carry. If the street vendors become to aggressive I would fall back on the tried and true 'British Square'
Depending on where she is going (malaria risk wise) a self-treatment of Fansidar for malaria would be nice to have. Also, a starter pack of Ciproflaxin for dysentery, Imodium AD for diarrhea, Compazine (or equivalent) for vomiting.......
I realize that India has modern healthcare, etc, but access may be delayed.
