For some reason I can't reply in your original post...

OBG, even though we never managed to meet, I've counted you as one of the most influencial people in my life for years. I can't imagine you not being here anymore.

If you promise to come back and say it was just a joke I'll...I'll buy you a popsicle.

Please?

OBG,

I pray that your fini flight will be peaceful....

High Flight
by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

OBG,

Some people say the true measure of a man's life is in the number of people whose lives he made better, whether for an instant or an eternity. If so, then you have lived well, compadre, as many of us are better people, thanks to your willingness to share. Like the others here, I appreciate your gifts of wisdom that you've given to us, and wish you peace and contentment for the next phase of your journey.

Don, I read your post with tears streaming down my face, searching your words for a hint that this was some kind of awful joke.

I do not have the words to tell you how much you have meant to me and the other members here, I just don't.

I couldn't help but think of this song when I read your last post. We all will follow you into the sunset one day ol' boy.

Cheers OBG. You have always exuded goodwill and smiles here...thank you for that.

However it seems, you are not alone. Add me to those who send you thanks, and support, and courage, and strong best wishes.

Was hoping to meet in this world, guess I'll just hope there is a next. A little angry at God right now, though I know that's pretty foolish and selfish.

You have done well; take your rest if that's what must be.

Hi OBG,

Although we've only exchanged a few PM's and other messages over the years, I've truly enjoyed the conversations and have spent many hours looking over the various posts that you've been a part of.

It is with much heartfelt regret that I read your post and learned about this latest challenge. You have brought a lot of both wisdom and wit to the forums, you will be sorely missed, but remembered kindly for years to come.

I realize that you may never see this message, but if you do, please know that it comes from the heart and that I thank you for being you for all the good that you've performed in your life.

May we cross paths again my friend.
Best regards, Comanche7

Mhallcinci brought up a good idea on a donation or some sort of thing that we could do to either help his family or commemorate him for his contributions through the years with ETS. I wonder if Susan may have any ideas on the best way to handle this. If there is a donation to help out his family or what have you, I would be interested in contributing as well. Does anybody have any ideas of the best way to handle this?

OBG,

I enjoyed your posts thoroughly through the years. I also hope the docs are wrong and you are here a few more years with us.

As for donations, etc. The first thing that popped into my head was an ETS Cap... Maybe someone else has a better idea.

It might be too little, too late, but what about printing out these threads and sending them to him? It sounds like people know him personally.

I never actually met you, but Via Con Dios. We lost a fellow offroader last year to cancer. He was just a little over 20 years old. He never once got down about his situation, he was always smiling when you saw him. We all chipped in and rebuilt his Jeep for him with the help of a couple of local 4x4 shops. So many people showed up to work on it, it was amazing. The shops donated free parts, labor, everything.

We delivered it to him at the hospital, I actually got to be the one to drive it there. The look on his face when he saw it said it all. He actually got to ride in it one time before he passed away.

His last wish was for everyone in our local club to come to the funeral in jeans and club t-shirts and drive our rigs in the funeral. Most of the folks had never seen a rock-crawling buggy, full exo-cage, on 39" tires in a funeral procession. I had his dad toss a Spicer universal joint from my Jeep in the grave before it was filled in. Spicer brand is tough stuff, but nowhere near as tough as Zach was.

I still get really sad when I see a thread on our local forum with his posts in it. But I know he's in a better place and is no longer in pain.

OBG: I'm devastated by your news. I've only been participating in ETS Forums for a short time, but I've looked forward to your postings -- you always had a smile or a unique insight to offer, and I see you, Blast, Ironraven, Wildman800 and several others as the mentors of our discussion.

You're now facing the one, final adventure we will all face sooner than we will want, and I hope you find comfort in knowing the positive impact you've had on us here. I will raise a glass of cheer to you and wish for you calm seas, a fair wind at your back and a bright star to sail towards. We'll see you soon.

I don't know OBG outside of this forum but I always look(ed) forward to his insightful and humorous contributions. With that said, I find myself getting surprisingly wistful while reading this thread and I miss him already. frown

I'm not giving up though, since doctors can be wrong and people can overcome tremendous obstacles. If OBG returns, it will be a glorious event! If not, he will live on here and in the memories of each of us who were lucky enough to share this space with him. smile

Having re-read for the 2nd or 3rd time this thread, after the other one froze-up, I wonder if there's any way for OBG to read how he's touched all of us?

He mentioned in that last post that he wouldn't be back, so I ownder if he's even seeing these posts. For the moderators, is there any way to track down his DW and have a print out of all these well wishes sent? Perhaps be bought from or donated to ETS over the years? There should be some delivery address if so.

OBG, like the rest here, I'm going to miss your insights - "Sea daddy" sums it up nicely. Every time I'm back home with my parents I wonder if you're the old guy driving an RV whenever I pass one. I caught myself today reading something and waiting for your thoughts on the topic. Your absence is already being noticed.

I agree that OBG touched many, and am glad you thought of this. I have OBG's email, and assume that it is shared with his wife. I have made a PDF copy of the two threads and shall forward them to said address.

EDIT: Maybe I better talk to the Moderators and Doug first. I really don't want to step on any toes with this.

I will email Doug and hit notify for Mods.

Perhaps a donation to the ETS foundation in his memory would also not be out of the question.

Both threads have been converted to a PDF and emailed on to OBG's email. I shall update the PDF to him and his family unless either asks me to stop.

I can see either a contribution to ETS or the American Cancer Socitey.....does anyone have any direct contact with OBG or his family? I would perfer to give to a cause they believe in just to make it more personal.

OBG, you dont know how I much I respected you, and how much I looked up to you, as always being the "young one" of the forum, you and a select few others were always there to offer me advice, and wisdom, and for that, I thank you!
