I've got "the knife itch" again, I really do (a BAD thing). I really don't feel like going over to Bladeforums (haven't been there in probably 8-9 months) so I'm going to ask here
I have a William Henry "Lancet" - nice knife, for a small gent's knife, but I have better (customs)
Think is, I like the lancet except for a few little things - in order of least important to most (for me)
1)The Bolsters are Nickel Silver - OK, they look nice, but they tarnish all the time - stainless would be nice
2)I'd love ambidextrous thumb studs
And the killer - if it was 25%-50% larger, it would be great. It has a 2-3/8" blade, and a closed length of 3-1/2 inches, which is OK, but I'd like to see it say have a closed length of around 5", with a proportional increase in blade length
Anyone know of a knife like this? I do NOT want an assisted opener. I had to go through a detector one day, and they would have checked say a leatherman, or the lancet, but I had a leak on me - the court officer said "take it back to your car - and I'm being nice - I should arrest you for having a switchblade" - I have heard other stories of folks having assisted openers taken as switchblades, even if they are not (we know it) - but the answer always is "I can take it, and let you go, or I can arrest you, and you can tell it to the judge, and maybe get it back"

DR RSK's or Benchmade 520 with plain edge. I have the 520 and love it.

Guys, Have you looked at a Lancet? Extreme spear point, thin blade, Gent's style, NOT TACTICAL Think of a Lancet upsized to say the size of a Leek - which is a fairly small knife If I wanted a drop point, etc, I'd get a Sebenza - the mnandi is about the same size as the Lancet, and I'd say sort of the same market (The Lancet has been upgraded a TAD since I got mine years ago, now in ZDP-189 steel etc). I love the general design, but... Looking at what they now offer, a GenTac MIGHT be interesting I have my share of fairly heavy knives - I'm looking sor something in the size range of a small Sebbie, with more of a spear/lancet point - basically an extreme drop point. Heck, I'll even go as fars as a Warncliff, or Mod Warncliff blade (which is what the Leek is). This knife is close - oh so close, but a TAD to large - yes, I own it, and the photo is on my site The problem with that knife is it's TOO nice - it's going to go out for engraving sometime this year, and will be my "work of art" - it's the knife I carry when I'm in a suit, in it's microfiber pouch

Sounds like the Cold Steel Caledonian Edge would suit your bill. It has almost all the features you're looking for. Too bad it's so expensive. http://www.coldsteel.com/caledonianedge.html

Umm, ok - it retails for something like $270 the last time I checked though.

Interesting video that. Couple of points I noticed about it: 1) Knife is rated to only 100lb. Against 200lb for a Benchmade Axis lock. 2) He's stabbing with it. So it's a killing weapon, not a tool. Also I notice that he is being very careful to keep all the forces exerted on the frame perpendicular to the long (strongest) axis. 3) All of the slashing tricks he performed with the rope, bottle, cardboard etc are nothing special. Most plain edge knives of decent quality will do that. Sadly, I'm not impressed. One other point: A proper Skean Dhu is not a fighting knife. It's a well designed small carbon steel utility knife, that is perfect for general use.

Nice, but nothing I'd be interested in buying -- too pretty -- different strokes.
OTOH an "entry level" Sebenza seems to be an excellent tool. I EDC Benchmade 940's and RSK Mk1's which serve my needs, along with various SAK's.

KG2V, Sounds like you are discriminating gentleman. Let me personally reccomend the following site... http://www.knifelegends.com/I have known the owner on a personal and proffessional level for many many years. And I will tell you there is not a more honorable man doing business today. Period. Perhaps you might find something is his "weekly specials" section that fits the bill.

...snip I hope no one post videos on YouTube using a screwdriver or they'll be after my Craftsmans next. Sorry, I understand the (UK) response but it's just so peculiar sounding to me that I couldn't help but respond.
