When I actually get to work in my avocation I do. Not much, but yes I worked two summers on a large ranch just opposite the Reagan Library, now sadly another anonymous community. I spent my days in idylic surroundings, meticulously excavating test units with trowel, brush and tape measure, setting up tripods for photographic records, cataloging shell beads, lithic tools and a stunning abalone shell, asphaltum, dentalium shell pendant in association with a huge quartz crystal:said objects sending the local Chumash shaman into reverential silence as I turned them over. At the end of the season we drove out to see crews allready laying sewer pipe, ripping into the earth in contraditction to our carefull excavation. In a brief conversation I learned they made 3 times my pay
