I have narrowed my choices for a multitool for my EDC down to two possibilities. Either the Leatherman Fuse or the Leather Knifeless Fuse. I carry a separate folder as my primary knife but I can't decide if I should carry a secondary blade (on the regular LM fuse) or add the file that replaces the blade on the LM fuse in the knifeless fuse. con FUSED yet? anyway the question summarized is a follows.

carry a secondary blade or add a file to my EDC?

What's your opinion.

I like variety, assuming the knife you already carry is a sturdy
one.

In my pocket I have a pocket knife. (often a couple, depends on the coat I am wearing and what is in its pockets)
On my keychain I have a tiny pen knife.
In my packs are sheath knives.

I like the files on the Leatherman tools.
As knives they suck.

Based on my experience, I would go with the knife blade. It won't be brilliant, but it's a backup, and you can use it for 'crud' work like stripping cable or scraping parts.

I find the standard Leatherman file to be essentially useless on hardened steel (axes, knives). It will work reasonably well on soft steel like shovels. Do not expect it to match the performance of a real file from a hardware store. Not even close.

The only Leatherman file worth having is the diamond file. These are in the Wave and Charge (all versions), Surge, and two retired models (PST II and Pulse). Highly, highly recommended. It's a primary reason why I carry a Wave II.

Oh, sorry to have left out that vital piece of info. I carry a yellow handled DR RSK-MK3.

Okay, thanks for the input gang. As good a knife as the RSK is I think I'll go for the redundancy. With a backup blade on my leatherman I at least have two chances to not lose my knife.

Among the first tools made by man, I am sure you would find knives or a near proximity thereof. Because knives are among are more useful tools. If carrying two is not an inconvenience, why not?
