When I was a kid, it was a rite of passage to clean a smelt by first biting the head off...

I have never bit the head off a smelt, but I have seen it done (there was alcohol involved).

We used to have a big smelt fry at work and cleaned the little fish using scissors borrowed from the front office. On Monday morning people who were not at the party always wondered what that funny smell was?
