a fire steel/ferrocium rod with a storage container in the handle?

Seems like it would be a natural, I'm picturing a simple, hollowed out metal or plastic or wooden knob with a watertight seal attached to the rod with a striking steel on a short lanyard, gives you a place to store some dry tinder.

Anyone?

This new offering from RAT Cutlery is nice kit. It can be had for around 25 bucks street price and the replacement rods are inexpensive (MSRP: $4.50 per rod). This thing puts out more than just sparks!!

Ultimate Survival's strikeforce has a small hollow for a wetfire tinder or 2...its not waterproof, but their tinder is 1)foil wrapped and 2)burns as well if not better when wet.

One of the EDC Forum people used a bison tube to do what you are talking about.

I think he drilled a hole in the bottom of the tube and epoxied the rod in. There was space left for tender and the tube made the handle.
