Key Fob Knife

At the moment, on my key chain I have a whitby firefly with 50/50 serated blade. I don't like this knife at all as it is chunky, tacky, and I only ever use the straight bit of the blade so the serrations get in the way. I'm not sure what to replace it with. At the moment I am considering: A swisstech utilikey, M2 Sebertool, Victorinox mini champ, Victorinox Classic or similar, Leatherman Squirt/micra or any combination of the above. Any ideas? thanks

For EDC, I usually carry a Micra - If I carry anything bigger or more knife-like, I'll get hassles from school. I also find that I use the scissors (in an urban environment) more than the plain blade. the micra has a blade in any case.

well since you are just like me low budgeted i would go for a Coast micro toolbox http://www.coastcutlery.com/?v=20&pl=6&p=195 ( marketed by gelert in EU ) ( € 7.50 ). the feature's "locks" by closing the handle wenn you have pulled out the tool of choice. The tools in it all work, the saw is actually to small to saw anything dicent and the blade is actaully to small to be a 50/50 plain edge/serrated. but i have use it for more than a year (but i lost it 2 days ago.. <img src="images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> ) and i like it alot. defenatly a good choice wenn $$$ is a problem.

Pete, You've got to think carefully what you'll get away with for a keyring knife in the UK. I always reckon that the nicer the knife the more likely you are to have it confiscated by plod! I have two fireflys, neither has a 50/50 blade, mine both have a plain edge. They are easily sharpened, discreet and cheap enough that if you lose them, who cares. I was given a present of some coast micro-pliers, an alledged micro-tool, what a chunk of s**t. There wasn't enough quality to measure with a scanning electron microscope (this isn't the micro toolbox).

I have the same problem. I traded my leahtermen micra, the only leahtermen I really like, in for a SAK classic, and I want to go back. It has all you will need for a key fob type tool and then some. More pluses: the scissors are stronger, the tweezers are better and it has a btolle opener, and for a Corona drinker like myself, it is easier to get to and less conspicuous (sp?) than getting out my Swisstool!

i have to take that back, after searching for a new one i discovered that all the once i have seen in the store's don't "lock" like it should, the things aren't even placed parallel ! the steel doesn't look like mine old one did, the steel looks horrible ! and the things are way to hard to open ! with other words, they are good one's out there, but the new one's i have seen stinks ! i replaced mine mine lost micro toolbox with a wenger executive now. cost more, but way beter than the new coasts. ( can't afford a leathermen or something yet.. )

For over a year I've been carrying a cheap Bar Creek rosewood inlaid 2 inch blade lockback that I bought at Wal-Mart for about five bucks. I widened the holes in it so I could put it on a half inch key ring, and attached it to the lanyard of my MagLite Solitaire. At the other end are my keys and my whistle/led flashlight. I put a good sharp edge on the Bar Creek blade and find that I use it several times a day. The incredibly sharp bayonet style tip is quite useful, and overall, I find a mini lockback to be very handy. Works for me. Regards, Keys
