Yesterday, I found a "Combat Survival Kit" made by Gelert (www.gelert.com) sold locally in a store.

When looking to the Personal Size Survival Kit Reviews on ETS, it seems almost identical to the B.C.B. Survival "Combat Survival Kit"

The differences I found at first glance are:

1. The "Folding Pen Knife, 2 1/8 in. plain edge spear point blade, lanyard loop" is replaced in the Gelert kit by a small locking knife. It seems to me after an internet search, that it is an "Imperial Apex AP1 - Mini Lockback (http://www.schradeknives.com =>site map =>Imperial knives>Apex =>AP1 - Mini Lockback). Since it locks, it seems better.

2. B.C.B. Commando Wire Saw (w/out finger rings) => In Gelert kit: Same saw but with the finger rings

3. There is a survival instruction sheet, that seems to different from the one on the ets-site, but it is a BCB instruction-sheet on some shiny paper (? waterproof?).

4. In addition to the survival-instruction sheet, there's a sheet of (normal) paper where you can fill in?/out? your personal data.

I found it for EUR 19.24 in Belgium (Europe). This information could be interesting to people who are searching the BCB-kit, but who can't find it.

If Doug is interested I could take & mail some photographs of this kit an its contents.

Tranx.

Gelert sells other company's stuff, so that IS proberbly BCB's kit, the newer combat survival kit's are a little diffret from the reviewed one. the extra paper is proberbly the excident evaluation report.

It IS the same kit. Many companies sell BCB's gear under thier name. It is more than just gelert.

Thanks for the reply PC2K & ditchfield,

I was not aware about the fact that Gelert (I never heard of the company before), just rebranded gear from other manufacturers.

It seems that the BCB kit has improved somewhat (locking knife, wire saw with rings and maybe an improved instruction sheet + water purifications tablet are still good for several years). Maybe Doug could add this to the BCB kit evaluation.

PS: I have no commercial links to Gelert. I was just glad to find the kit locally. Finding the right gear locally is very difficult .

Gelert are a company based in North Wales. They started out (don't sue me please) quite small and selling gear that most in the military thought a joke. However, they worked hard at it and their current stuff is much, much better, is well accepted, but still retains their excellent prices - bonus. Fair play.
