The title isn't an oxymoron....

I recently discovered (on my bathroom counter) a dental floss made from a fiber (fibre) from W.L. Gore (of Gore-Tex fame) that is some sort of continous synthetic fiber (i.e. no rough spots and/or shredding) and comes convienently wound on small spools coated with a very fine layer of "natural" wax. I can't break this stuff by hand. Seems significantly stronger than normal floss (which isn't that weak either) and is very uniform.

I've added a 50M spool to all of my kits!

They have a web site: Glide Floss Web Site

Can you tie it to a tooth and slam a door? The guy on cast away could have used it!

Well you know it's all about surviving in style... There is no need to neglect state of your teeth even if you are a castaway. You never know when durring your marooning you get invite to the local cannibal tribe welcome party. Maybe you even get a date with chief's daughter...

Actually it's pretty slippery--I hadn't thought of that aspect until last night after I made the post. I tried a few simple knots and they have a tendency to slip, so probably would need similar set to working with spiderwire.

Sometimes it's the simple things......

Unwaxed dental floss is superior to waxed floss or the slippery synthetics for oral hygiene. Waxed floss originated as rocking chair science that postulated it would leave a coating on the teeth that would act as a barrier to dental caries (decay). In reality it merely acts as a lubricant reducing cleansing action. The most common complaint regarding unwaxed floss is shredding and tearing. This annoyance usually signals the need for dental treatment. Waxed floss is markedly superior to no floss, however. Just remember that it is not necessary to floss all of your teeth daily, only those you wish to keep. Regards, Lou
