This is the list of items in my unfinished and wholly inadequate micro kit.

1 Ranger Rick's 4 finger fire starter copy
2 pieces of non waterproof paper
1 stub of pencil
1 scalpel blade
1 piece of foil
- cotton wool
2 needles
- H.D thread
4 water purification tablets
1 safety pin
2 NATO wind/ waterproof matches
1 relighting candle
1 button compass
1 Lifesystems aluminium 100 decibel whistle

The tin it is contained in is the same as the one at Pro Survival Kit and measures 2-3/8"X 1-7/8"X 1/2". My tin one contained O- zone mints which I bought at a Tesco Supermarket. I put this tin together before the pro survival kit one was put on their website. It is strange as I use the same tin, the same whistle, the same matches and some other similar kit. The whistle takes up a large amount of room in the kit and will only fit in the tin diagonally. This is strange because on the Pro Survival kit website the picture shows the whistle as shorter than the tin <img src="images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />.

Any comments would be very useful, espessially alternatives to that whistle.

Ditchfield,

That looks like a great micro kit. The reason our kits are so similar is that I did a recon of your kit while you were sleeping a few months back! The actual reason is that there are only about 3 standard size tins easily available. The one we have, the one Doug uses, and a larger one similar to the BCB tin.

Our whistles are obviously not the same; mine is 1 and 13/16ths inches long, which leaves plenty of room on one end for a Tinder-Quick Tab to be packed.

My Micro Pro kit is designed to be a crucial needs kit for items that would be tough to improvise. I would like to have some water purification tabs and a container included, but the size will not allow it. Carrying the kit in a bag with tabs included would be a good idea.

Hope this helps,
George

Ah yes, mine is 2 and 4/10ths long, that certainly is a big difference. I'll have to keep my eye out for a smaller whistle. Yours certainly looks the same as mine though.
thanks for the reply.
