I've never been one for taking pictures, but my son is coming all the way from california for christmas and I figured that's pretty good reason to buy a camera. I'm playing around with it, testing it, getting to know it.

Thought I would take some pics of my Bug Out gear. There's a lot to photograph, so more pics will come as I have time. I could have started with my backpack, or cookware, or fishing gear, or something like that. But seeing as how this is my very first pic, I wanted to start with the fun stuff.



At the top is my Remington 870 Express Synthetic with a recoil pad. Those are 3" Brenneke Black Magic Magnum slugs. To be used either in defense against large wild animals, or to take down a large food animal.

Next is my Chinese knock-off .177 air rifle and pellets. A lot of people don't like this particular model, but it works for me. To be used for hunting birds, squirrels, and other small game.

At the bottom is my Ruger GP100 .357 Magnum. I have two different loads. The first being 158 grain JHP Federal Hydrashok. The other being 180 grain Buffalo Bore hard cast flat nose. To be used for back-up defense or hunting.

What are those shell holders? They look nifty.

Are those MTN Case Guard shell holders?

Is there some buckshot and some birdshot in that shotgun's future. No sense wasting the shotgun's biggest advantages, versatility and patterning.

do you have any problems with the scope working loose on that air rifle??

Ironically, part of your Bug Out gear should be pictures of the contents of your house (for insurance purposes). So take some pictures of those pictures ;-)

Beautiful family, you have there.. I have a 870 as well and wanted a .357 just like that. My only concern was the capacity of the .357 vrs somthing like a Glock.

But after seeing this pic, I might reconsider. Its a beautiful gun.

Good choices, looks like you have the bases covered, all quality weapons. Looking forward to seeing your other gear. It' always interesting to see what others carry, sometimes you might see a hole in your own preps.

I use a Blackhawk shotgun bandoler to carry my shells.

I also chose the 870 with a full Chote pistol grip stock, quad rail fore grip with Surefire light with pressure pad, in addition a Springfield Armory XD in 45acp and a FN Fal, I have a Marlin bolt 22 for small game.

Maybe a dozen .38 spl shotshells for the Ruger? I have had mixed results with them over the years, but with their aluminum cases they don't weigh much, and could work for getting small close critters for the pot...

Careful with close range shots with that .38 shotshell. I received a shock when I shot a target board of plywood to check the patern on my S&W M25-5 .45LC. Half of the shot tried to get back in the gun. At least I guess that was what they were doing. None made it, but sure as heck got into my skin. I was popping lead "pimples" for three days. Thank god for shooting glasses. Lack of experience + painful lesson = hard won knowledge.

Sweet. I too, am intrigued by those shell holders. I'm a bandoleer man myself - 5 slugs, 5 OO, and 15 #4 is my layout. If I'm truly bugging out, I'll probably load the 870 with 00 as well. Mine also has a Surefire lamp attached, giving me another source of light if needed.

I have a Ruger 10/22 for small game, though a recent range session showed that my new sights are WAY off (4-5" high at 25 yards). I know that the pro/con of a .22 vs .177 has been debated, by my choice is simple - my air rifle is at my parents house in CA, and I'm living in MI! Problem solved.

Yeah, they're MTM. You can wear them on your belt, but I got them just because it's easier to arrange small cases in my backpack than a large case.

I have several boxes of game loads and buckshot, but what's shown in that pic is only the ammo I can carry on my back without breaking it. I have a deer cart to haul around the rest of my ammo. I might work on getting a pic of that next. It's a beast.

You've got to love the GP 100! Rock solid and reliable. A side saddle for the 870 would be a nice addition.
