Thank you to all that have served.
It was recently put to me that when a vet is thanked for his service, that they all say "Just doing my job".
It is true though. One enters the service to do just that, Serve. Once you are in and realize that its us versus them, that service becomes even more important.
It becomes service to your buddies, teammates and friends. It becomes your job to keep the folks around you, and especially those the command has seen fit to place under your responsibility alive and safe. In fulfilling that basic need, you and your friends fill the needs of this beautiful country.
It is a beautiful thing to have served my country. I have benefited from an education and experiences that no one could purchase at any price. And each night as I begin to slip off to sleep, I remember each of those I have served with who didn't return; either from combat action or just sad mistakes. It is then I realize we as Americans owe it to those that made the ultimate sacrifice, we owe them a proud and free nation that will still be here long after my time has gone.
Now this washed out MP needs a beer and a Kleenex.
