I didn't realize Steripen entered the military market with the Protector (appears to be the same as the adventurer).

Haven't seen it floating about in UK military circles. We've got far too many puritabs to get rid off anyway.

I know what your saying Izzy, I've had good luck with mine, I've traveled with it and haven't got sick yet. I carry back up batteries and remove the batteries when not in use but I used the heck out of it when traveling and went through a set of batteries in a day by cleaning up the water including for brushing teeth, etc...

It is a very good idea to sterilize the water use for brushing teeth, bathing. Not just for drinking water only. It had been known that some hikers got scratch/cut during the day hike. They settle down at base camp in the evening and fall sick after bathing with contaminated water.

However, the steripen is not suitable for sterilizing a big tub of water.
