it sounds like from the Black Hills,East the Plains are having their version of the hurricans you guys down south get blasted with..the word is a much as 20 foot drifts as the blizzard moves east..on another site--bwca.com--a guy is trying to get thru to family..no cell phone contact,and ran the local news link..our weather went from shirt sleeve 70's to cold 50's and rain overnite..something to think about when packing for a overnite hike this time of year..

Man, I am loving it. The temps are down into the low 30s in the morning now here in Denver. I have boxes of cold weather gear and supplies unpacked that I haven't seen in years. Last night I cranked up a lentil stew with extra cayenne, then sat in front of the fireplace and rubbed my belly when I was done eating.

Can hardly wait for my pickup to get here so I can head up in the high country and have some fun. Coyote season will be here soon. Time to get some new white suits for snow hunting time.

I am a program control manager for a large Project management/consulting organization. I was working on the Seminole County Capital Improvement Program while in Florida, now I am on a big city of Denver program. Prior to Florida, I was in Brisbane Australia, and before that I was in Manhattan, and before that I was in Baghdad, doing pretty much the same sort of work. Before Baghdad I was working in my other career, which is as a Telecoms specialist. Weird huh?

My previous stay in Colorado was a brief one. It was in between Baghdad and New York, wrapping up my Baghdad work before changing employers. But I love it here, and so does the wife, and so when I moved her down (before I realized I would be going to New York), she stayed here while I travelled, except for a few months last winter when she was with me in Florida for a spell.

If there was anything I could bring with me from Florida, it was my experience with some of the people there. As with anyplace I have been in life, it is the people I interact with that my memories focus around the most. There was lots to do, but the things that stand out the most are the activities I partook with friends and family. Regrettably, you and I never got to meet, but we've shared plenty enough here for me to call you friend.

Hope that's worth something. I don't have so many of those, y'know.

Roarmeister--i think your in what we call "too cold to snow" type of territory--

Temp got to 0*C today (having a cold spell) which is about 5* cooler than normal. However, when I was a kid we usually had several centimetres of snow on the ground by now. It seems that with global warming we've been getting an extended "fall" season more often and later into the calendar year.

BTW, I always get a kick out of you Americans when you say "northern plains" or "northern Rockies"! The plains and Rocky mountains physically go all the way up to the Yukon territory.

thats north for us..and we do say Canadian Plains,Canadian Rockys and yes we know they are bigger..
