Yes, as much as I grumble about little kids, it's only the whinney, screaming, gimme-gimme ones that I am grumbling about, I like the smart, curious ones.
A couple of my friends have a 5 year old. This spring, she discovered fractions, 1/2 (which she sometimes calls a "two-th", I think it's cute, I don't care), 1/3, etc. She's also learned about cents and dollars. Well, today, I learned that on her own she figured out that (a) .50 is a half and .25 is a quarter, and (b) how decimal fractions work. She demonstrated with 100 pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, a half dollar, and dollar bill. She then went on to point out that ten tens is a hundred, and five fives is twenty five, so she's also epiphanied onto multiplication.
She isn't my kid. I'm not even a god parent, just a good friend of the family. But I'm jazzed. I got to share.
