Hmm. Interesting. Is it easy (and quick) to adjust? Interesting concept. I wonder if you could build something into the compass like a tape measure's retractor or like a retracting key ring.

I personally don't like them for diving, but they could be used for other purposes!!!

The retractable key rings are usually too loose to hold the weight of the compass. I think my double fisherman knot lanyard is stronger and just as effective. And I can wear it around my neck at all times.

Gotcha. If you get a chance, perhaps a few "field notes" would be in order?
