Anyone got a 'pet' oil for keeping that Leatherman Wave in good working order?

I use some light machine oil meant for sewing equipment:

Try White Lightning. It penetrates and dries as a film that will not trap dust. It is made for both Bike chains and knives. I use the Bike chain stuff, which seems to be a teflon based particle suspended in chloroform. It degreases then leaves a nice slippery film. Let dry and polish off the tools, just enough remains in the slipjoints to lube nicely.

Get it at a bike store or REI. I have never tried the knife version.

If you use your Leatherman regularly, there is no need to any oiling, as that will create an unneeded mess, and dust or sand mixed with oil will only abrade parts of your priced tool.

More important is to keep it clean and dry. If it gets severly soiled, wash it with soap and water, wipe well and let it dry with the tools open and out of the pouch. Remember it is made of stainless and well resistant to rust and corrossion (unles you bath it in sea water and leave it to rot in the pouch- OUCH!! OOPS)

After days on the ocean or river I give it a "bath" in wd40. I than wipe it dry and put some of the Remington Gun Oil with teflon on hinges. Works fine. I neglected my Wave one time after comming back from the kayaking trip and few weeks later nasty surprise in terms of rust stains on the blades was formed. Since than I realy try to be more preventive.

I also use white lightning (the one for knives). i bought a white lightnig 'knive care kit' the other day. I don't notice a difference when using all the other products (de-greaser, polisher, etc) as oppossed to just the oil.
