Yesterday I got my first 'taste' of US MRE rations. They're great. However they are not very compact compared to the British ones. I like the tiny bundle of toilet paper and the tabasco sauce, great idea. In the British packs you get 10 NATO wind/waterproof lifeboat matches, but in the US ones you get 20 paper matches. On the paper match packet, I noticed it mentioned that the matches are made for use in damp conditions. Are these matches any different to normal paper matches and would they be useful for inclusion in survival kits?

IMHO, the MRE matches are better than standard paper matches, but not by much. I carry and use them - primarily in balmy conditions so I can save more serious lighting implements for wetter weather.

Another acronym problem. What does IMHO mean?
