Actually, the Trangia "simmer ring" cap works pretty well. Comes will new burners, don't know if its in all the older mess kits.

I have the White Box Stove, think its great. Its a blow torch but with some practice you get the measurements right for fuel. Added kelvar wick to the outside to prime. Also picked up a small kettle for water which I use at home to so it's worth the investment.

Seems like a great idea for a bob or home ( outdoor) emergency use - as alcohol is fairly stable and widely available.

Okay, if not for backpacking, then this is the type of alcohol stove I would prefer:

It should be at least as good as a Coleman control knob.

Last summer I recall reading that a Boy Scout was killed when trying to refill an alcohol stove that hadn't been allowed to cool down enough (or may have still been lit). Apparently the flame caused the alcohol container to ignite resulting in lethal burns to the boy. Very sad.

Be careful when refilling!

I recently purchased a White Box Stove and the little starter kit from freezerbagcooking.com. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. Soon I hope.
