I hope that this is not old news to most, but I just learned that anyone (with a clean background) can get a CCW in Nevada that is good in about eight other states. (http://207.228.25.169/pages/RecordsCivil/Records/ccws.html). You have to attend a one day class and do some simple range work. A couple of friends from CA just did it, and report it to be a very simple process.

You can get a CCW from Florida over the internet (http://www.dfwgunsafety.com/CCW_Classes/florida_ccw.htm). A Fla CCW is valid in 20 other states.

Both of these CCW's are good for five years.

I have been told, but not researched it yet, that a CCW can also be easily obtained from the state of Utah, and that with all three (NV, FLA, and UT), one can legally carry in over 28 states.

Just for your info...

I believe CT and RI have the same arrangement. So do MA and RI, but not MA and CT.

You bet!

Florida is the most coveted of all non-resident permits. It is however, pretty expensive (around $200, as I recall). Most non-res permits require that you have a resident permit in your home state (which means if you're from a CCW unfriendly state - Mo, Il, NJ, etc. - then you're still up the creek without a paddle).

Packing.org has a very accurate database that you can access to research state CCW laws and reciprocity. You do not have to sign up for an account to use it. <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

FLA does not seem to require a resident permit. Several different types of safety certification are accepted. Even a Hunter's Safety course, apparently.

Also the price looks like its dropped... $107 for a non-res.

That database is handy, guess I oughta look at it a little more often myself!

Sorry 'bout that! <img src="images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

NM Gov Richardson, in the last couple of days signed the law on NM CCW. It took a couple of years to get it through. Permits will not be issued until Jan 04. $100 fee, safety course, CBI and i don't know what else, as yet.

Sound's like the pretty standard faire for a "shall issue" state. So, you gonna apply for your permit when the time comes?

I am strongly thinking about it. Have to decide which of my firearms to use. .380 auto or .38 snub nose. .380 would leave less of an imprint. My .357 magnum wheel gun would really wear me down for concealed. I'm just a little guy. <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Well, nobody is gonna ever call me a little guy ("short" maybe, but not "little"). Even so, I don't think I'd wanna pack a revolver all day.

I find my Walther PPK/s seems to fit just fine in the pocket of my Dockers when I go into the office. Some say the .380 (even a .38 snubby) is a "mouse gun", but the best gun is the one you bring with you to the fight. I've never felt so encumberred as to leave it at home. <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Hey guys, it's me again, Mr. 9mm. I used to carry a .38 snubbie, but since I found this I'm a happy packer. I've got over a thousand rounds through mine and love it. Fits in Dockers pocket with a pocket holster.

Lightweight, and +P rated (don't overdo +P, standard is fine). Regards, Keys

I recently found out that when I return to the US in 2004 I will be spending 2 months in Georga so my wife and I can take a course. As a dedicated CCW guy I had to look into this FL carry permit thing. There's no way I'm giving up CCW for 2 months while back in the states!

I am a happy man. Georga and PA (My home state) have a reciprocity agreement! I'm already good to go. FL honors the PA permit as well so I can even go to the beach. This thread made my week and saved me alot of hassle! Thanks, Mac.

PS - Carry gun, Kahr K-9, Cor-Bon 115 +P+, De Santas Speed Scabard.
