Don't know if anyone's interested or can even make the trip but, you can get just about any kind of prescription medicines in Old Mexico...without a prescription.
Pharmacies there are like 7-11's here, one on every corner.
Now, I'm talking about Juarez, just across the border from El Paso.
I have a friend who goes there occasionally for meds and he tells me most are lots cheaper than over here.
And if you need dental work that's the place to go.

For dental work, or any other medical procedure, I would be extremely concerned about sterility. In Mexico, disposable items are re-used repeatedly, often without suitable sterilization. You pay your money and take your chances.

Keep in mind that you can be arrested for transporting prescription, especially schedule items, across the border. It ain't legal!

I lived in Mexico three years and enjoyed nearly every minute of it. I looked very carefully at the dentist and endodontist that treated me.

Be very careful about sterility, purity, etc. You're paying less because you're getting far less. Our medical system is expensive because it works. You get what you pay for.

" A man who treats himself has a fool for a patient." Aside from out and out worthless bootleg counterfits ( which even show up in the USA,) there is a very compelling arguement against such schemes. Professionals are expensive. Yes, you can eliminate the middle man ( M.D. , D.V.M., opthamologist, plumber et al) and save money. Then one night you wake up to a overflowing toilet, your mail order contacts fall out and you break your leg in the fall. Now Mr. professional is supposed to deal with a new client; ignorant of his past history of health care, copper or PVC plumbing and credit rating. Oh, and it's 2A.M. <img src="images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Let me clarify to the nit-pickers.
I didn't mean for anyone to diagnose themselves. You can get your regular Rx med usually cheaper.
Not all Mexican dentist offices are infectious pits. I have friends and family who have been there because dentists here don't like to pull teeth.
And someone better tell those U.S. officers working the border gates that you can't bring "non-narcotic" Rx medicines across the border, because they seem to think it's all right.
And why is it that more people are killed by misdiagnosis and prescription screw ups than all the hand guns in the country?

My comments regarding the level of sanitation practiced in Mexican medical facilities were based on my actually living in the country for three years. I participated in health care activities and am familiar with the usual level of care practiced. Obviously, when I had my dental work done, I checked the professionals and their offices out. Hepatitis, HIV, and Syphillis are not the usual culprits with which I chose to suffer at the hand of Montezuma <img src="images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

One reason why the medications are cheaper in Mexico is that they are often made in third world countries with less quality control than in the USA. In the event of an overseas illness, I have and would continue to take my chances. I would not be willing to do so just to save a few bucks.

Finally, many of the drugs sold in Mexico are not appropriate to use without professional guidance. Many are not available in the USA because they are not safe.

Ya pays yo' money and takes yo' chances!
