REI in the Denver area is a good one, but may be a cab ride. Rent a car and head for the mountains, lots to see there.

Haven't been there, yet, so I can't help you. Now if you were going to Telluride, I have a friend who could show you the sights...

A Broncos game.
I don't know their schedule. Just the first thing that comes to mind when I hear Denver.

Blast, I am here in Downtown Denver now. I have to leave but will be back at the end of September, likely staying downtown again. Maybe we should plan something. The 16th st mall is here, and is a good outdoor walk, but not much of interest for guys like you and me. Still it is a good dose of Denver. REI is at the one end, and I've been meaning to get down that way this weekend if possible. Bass Pro Shops is on I-70 heading back towards the airport, and if possible I might steal the wife's car and we could take a little road trip.
Time for a PM

Walking distance you are pretty much confined to the 16th St. Mall, REI, Mile High Stadium and Coors field. If you want to go shooting, there's a good spot up on Highway 72 that many people use that I can give you directions to. There's an indoor range in Aurora that rents guns also.
Lots of good restaurants and bars, and microbreweries. Some have web cams so your spouse can check up on you, though.

Sodak, can you get me the name of the place in Aurora please. My DW wants to try out different handguns to see which one is going to be her next one. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tips! How far away is Aurora? I'm guessing a taxi would be way to expensive. Benjammin filled me in on the REI. Turns out it's a flagship store of theirs. That could be a bad thing. As for the bars with webcams, I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing... -Blast

Here it is, it's called the Firing Line. It was pretty well run when I went there, but that was 20 years ago. http://www.firinglineonline.com/It's probably a good 15 miles from Downtown Denver. The pistol range only goes out to 40 ft., but they used to have a nice assortment of guns to rent - great idea if you want to try first. REI is in the old Forney Museum. It was an old transportation museum. If you like old buildings, you'll love it. Just walking around Denver, there is some very cool architecture if you like that sort of thing. Go down 17th street, some very ornate buildings. At 20th and California, there is a skyscraper built around Holy Ghost Church. The columns in some places come within 6 ft of the Church. They had to get permission from the church to swing the crane over it's airspace, so the pastor at the time had them give a donation to the homeless in perpetuity every year. And they still do. I used to work in that building. Ok, I'll stop now.

I went with a friend once, and drove up I-25 to Hwy 66, west to Lyons. In Lyons, when you get through the majority of town, instead of turning right to go to Estes Park, you turn left onto Hwy 7 (I think). You follow that up about 10 miles, and within 200 yards of it's intersection with 72, the range is on your right. So from 72, go to the Hwy 7 intersection, hang a right, and park. Sorry if this sounds vague, I drove it once and don't have a good sense of direction. I'll call him and confirm that I got it right, I'm pretty sure it's close to Jamestown.
It's an unmarked meadow, but literally everyone around uses it, including police departments. You will see cars parked along the road, best to go somewhat early in the morning. You can get shots up to 100 yards or so, we were shooting up to 80 or thereabouts, according to one guy's laser rangefinder. The whole thing is unregulated, but there is plenty of room, and nice hills to shoot in to.

Hmm, sounds like just the thing, maybe a ways outta town, but what the heck. Always nice to know where these sort of places are, they are getting more and more scarce these days.
Thanks
