I bought a tube to experiment with and it seems to work pretty good. It's primary purpose is for fire starting, though, not cooking. It definetly has a petroleum based odor, but I haven't tested to see what it tastes like.
Just squeeze some on kindling and light.
Oh, you can use it to prime camp stoves.
It lights well using ferrocerium rod and it takes a pretty good wind to blow it out.
