In the wake of a massive propane explosion in Toronto, Canada, which caused a large evacuation, the media has rediscovered the preparedness issue.

I was particularly struck by the comments of one "child rearing expert" who suggested that actual preparations (bug-out bag) were too stressful and traumatic for children, and that a list of things you need was a better choice. ARGH!
