My personal preference is " A.G.Russell's Featherlite One Hand knife. 3 inch ATS34 blade weighing a mere 1.5 ounces and thin. Hardly realize it's around my neck, yet a particularly functional blade.

Hello Neanderthal and welcome to our campfire.I don't know what is more amazing ; the wide choices available to folks in knives and gear( even after graduating past the exotic, shiny or less than usefull stuff we all quietly replace), or the people that carry utterly nothing!

Thanks for the tip.

I have owned and enjoyed one of Russell's very early all-steel One Hand knives for many years. Recently, though, for a particular unusual carry, I came to wish that I could have the same thing with a "belt" clip. After some investigation I ended up with a CRKT Sampson's KISS (plain edge tanto), which is all steel, the same length, simpler, somewhat stronger lock, very inexpensive ($25 on eBay) and has proved very handy. The two have a very similar feel in the hand, but the clip keeps it in position instead of buried in a pocket (or wherever). The Featherlite still looks like the superior choice for a neck carry, though, because of the weight.

I bought a cold steel single edge ParaEdge two year ago on clearance. I got it out of curiosity but it has become a constant companion. The blade is 2 3/4in. long and very lite. It gets a lot of use while fishing and in preparing fruit and vegetables. The back edge is also use to get a spark for a fire. One question I have are these knives legal carry under your clothes in public? That is the only way I carry it.

It depends on the state. In California a fixed blade cnnot exceed 21/2". Yet a folder is considered inaccessable and can exceed that length.

Most states either use the old "width of your palm " standard or a flat 3 inches as the maximum blade length for concealed carry. Doesn't seem fair to those of us with small palms.

CA, MA, and NY are not really states. They are EMPIRES. I avoid them like the boubonic plague. In fact, I've been told,in no uncertain terms, that in NY any knife is a weapon !!! Hence, NO concealment.

Am I to understand that carrying a small folding pocket knife in your pocket in the state of New York makes you a criminal?

For links to various webpages containing information on state knife laws, see
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=state+knife+laws

For links to various webpages containing information on New York knife laws specifically, see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=new+york+knife+laws

Regarding your question, no, a small folding knife in your pocket does not seem to be illegal. New York law seems to mainly not like blades over four inches, locking blades and switchblade. This is assuming, of course, that the information at http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/ny.txt is correct. When dealing with any web-based research, always find multiple reliable sources before feeling too confident.

Stay safe,
J.T.
