Jack Link's Beefsteak Nuggets. It's like jerky, but nuggets instead of strips. Juicy instead of dry and chewy. I'm hooked. I've found 6 packs of them on line, but no cases yet. They'll be going into my stockpile rotation.

I like a lot of Jack Link's products and love their Teriyaki.

They sell packs of six of all their products; Jerky, Nuggets, Beef Sticks; on the Jack Link's Beef Jerky Site. Just go to the "Our Shop" link.

Other than that, our local Wal-Mart sells Jack Link's, but not by the case.

The beef nuggets are indeed good. A bit spendy for a week of backpacking but for a quick single hit, very good choice.

Survival food is supposed to taste like garbage, that way you are not temped to eat it.

I have had these beefsteak nuggets many times, they are a poor choice for survival food, I eat them all up too quick to have them lying around on a shelve calling to me.

We get steak nuggets. They are made by someone else but @ ~8/bag they are pricey! It's like a high-end camping treat... very very good.

I went on blasts edible plant tour last weekend, and I would expand that definition to be that survival food is supposed to taste like garbage, weeds, and chitinous exoskeletons.

I love those things! Used to get them at Costco, but for some reason they no longer handle them. Too pricey for me to buy them anywhere else...

Check out your local dollar stores. The local dollar Tree sells a combo-pack, 2 cheese sticks, 2 pretzels and 2 beef sticks in one package. For $1.00

And they taste good (I say this as I reach behind me to grab a few!)

It's all good, but the chitin gets stuck in my teeth-you guys use any plant or animal products useful as floss?

You're supposed to carry dental floss. It's good for all kinds of wrapping and tying and stuff. AND you can floss with it, too! (this goes on the Multifunctional list grin)

Re: not at Costco.
Check around. All the Costco's don't carry the same stuff. Got friends coming from outside your area? Have them check their local stores.

I like the Teriaki chunks.

My only complaints are:

1) the cost for a small amount of meat

2) that big hairy guy not being able to take a joke....

Extremely bland and icky wild foods (with some of it that looks back at you) isn't supposed to taste good. It's purpose is to encourage you to get out of the canyon/desert/mountains and find a Burger King.

What incentive could be greater for a lost 15-year-old boy?

That is why you are supposed to hide your survival food away until it's needed - out of sight, out of mind grin

The last time I was in SE Idaho, it took me longer to catch the grasshopper that it did to catch the fish I used it for. Why would you use a grasshopper as a sishkabob when you can catch a fish with it??
