Here in south and southeast Louisiana, we've had between 1" and 2" of rain, no reports of flooding, no reports of any wind damage.

We will probably look back at this storm and be thankful for the "right amount" of needed rainfall.

Nothing but rain here so far. On the plus side, my workplace was closed. On the downside, I'm muddling my way through a huge honeydo list...

Nothing here in DFW area (visiting for a couple weeks) other then the sprinklers going - at least I didn't see anything out of the ordinary (other then 107f yesterday).

It has been raining but not real hard in North Galveston County. At least I got my garage organized today!!1

Man, today was just a rainy day. Of course, I lived on the east coast of Florida where people don't rush to put up plywood for any old storm. Of course, I wasn't expected to get any work done so my chicken coop is farther along than I'd hoped.

Yesterday I'd called my brother in law to ask his help in building it... he said "didn't you hear about the storm???" "uh, yeah" well today he was over here helping me out despite his panic of yesterday...

We got only 2 inches of rain! I did get to review my hurricane supplies while cleaning the garage.

A thought came to mind. How often to you folks switch out your stored water. I have multiple containers of water and I have been using the water for my homebrewing throughout the year and they never sit for more than a month or two before they are used. But I have about 30 gallons that have been sitting for about 4 months and probably will sit for another 2 months.

How often should water sit?

Every May I buy 12 1-gal jugs of water as part of our preps. If a hurricane is coming I also fill up to six 7-gal Aquatainers and several 3-gal aquatainers. The aqutainers get dumped once the "all clear" sign is given. The 1-gal jugs get replaced yearly unless I use one before then. The used one gets replaced the next time we are at the store.

I keep very little on hand compared to you guys. I keep three gallons in my freezer. I don't make a point of it, because that could be expensive. Its just a good place to keep them and if something happens they can thaw out soon enough. If there is a threat of something happening, then we fill the containers. Of course, this leaves me open to surprise events leaving me without enough water.. but it works for me.

I'm still learning about long term preparedness ... and it seems it can be a difficult line to follow between practicality and impracticality. While I learn, I just make sure I have a case of MREs, a 5 or 10 gallons of water, and a whole lotta knowledge. That last part is the hardest to get enough of.

If the TSHTF then I'll probably be bugging out, as my suburban land cannot support my family in the near term or far term and my stronghold is not very defensible.
