In the book by Viktor Suvorov about structure of Russian military he describes a knife use by russian speical forces. It's a knife with spring loaded handle that by push of the button ejects the blade that can strike the traget 20-30 feet away. This guy also describes some really intense and unbelivable stuff so at points I began to doubt him. Also I remember that when I was a child we bought a lot of russian equipment on the border. I came across vast variety of gear but not a knife like that. Is it real?

Matt, I recall that a few years ago a swiss dealer had them for sale. They had some pictures so it seems to be real. I doubt that itīs really useful though. The idea of throwing away the weapon when it comes to close quarters combat doesnīt make much sense to me.

Yep, it's a real knife. In the '80s and early '90s it was advertised as "The knife that shoots". It was widely advertised in American Survival Guide, Soldier of Fortune, & countless gun & knife magazines. It was sold in "legal kit form" without the spring (available at any hardware store <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ) There was a baton & a grappling hook available as options to the blade. About a month before publication ceased I had sent an email to Self Reliance Journal (formerly ASG) to see if they had any information on whether anyone still sold the knife. I never heard back from them & haven't been able to find any source. It's not really a very practical knife but it's neat enough that I'd probably buy one just to say that I had it.

Yup, they are real. That type of knife is called a "balistic knives" I believe. Im sure if you really want one you can find one but they are illegal probibly everywhere. I know they are illegal in most (if not all) of the U.S.

Here's a website where I found some pictures of the knife being used. www.vampiregerbil.com It does appear to be illegal in all 50 states. After seeing the pictures on this page I'm wondering what the lawmakers are trying to protect us from. It looks like you'd have a hard time shooting yourself in the foot with this thing. Maybe a more powerful spring and a tanto blade.....

Well the way the this guy described this knife it sounded better than sliced bread. I imagined an ultimate survival weapon, blade and tool. But there is no point to it and since it's illegal. it's not even worth to get it for the hell of it. I will stick to my SOG Gov't and Sebenza combo.
